︎︎︎ About

Charlotte Gillain has been fascinated by making, moving and performing from an early age. After briefly studying Dance in Education at ArtEZ, she graduated from the Mime School in Amsterdam in 2021. There, she not only refined her movement vocabulary and performance skills, but also discovered herself as a dedicated maker — a place where her love of playing, moving and creating finally came together.

As a maker, Charlotte is intrigued by transformation and has a strong affinity with the existential. Since graduating, she has developed a passion for interdisciplinary work and regularly experiments with digital technologies such as deepfake, light scanning and motion capture. Even when her work enters the digital realm, the body always remains a fundamental axis — the lens through which she thinks, works and performs.

Since 2023, Charlotte has been running boogiebos, an artist-led space in the forest in Wuustwezel, Belgium. In 2025 she also joined the Amsterdam-based artist-led space Mime fabriek. Through these initiatives she has organised and curated residencies, events and informal gatherings for the mime and performance communities in both Amsterdam and Antwerp, nurturing exchange and collaboration across the two cities.

Originally from Kalmthout — a small village near Antwerp — Charlotte has been based in Amsterdam for several years and is committed to building bridges between the Dutch mime scene and the Belgian theatre field. In recent years she has collaborated with makers such as Het Houten Huis, Davy Pieters, Francesca Lazzeri, Gerben Vaillant, Schippers & Van Gucht, Fabian Santarciel de la Quintana, Boogaerdt/Vanderschoot, Mees Vervuurt and Kim Snauwaert.
